Ask an Author September 2022

Every week, I receive a few random messages asking questions I never thought to answer. Once a month, I'll share some of those with you and respond.

  • What are you reading?

Currently, I'm reading Crescent City by Sarah J. Maas. It's a good book, but it's a bit of a slog

for me. I enjoyed her Throne of Glass series more.

  • Name an author who's an automatic 1-click for you.

This is a big no-duh for anyone who knows me. Jim Butcher all the way.

  • Have you bought a book based off the cover alone?

Yes, but it's usually from authors I'm familiar with.

  • Can you read more than one book at a time?

Yes! I have books in every room, and I'll pick up the closest and read while I'm sitting still.

  • Stand-alone or series?

I love both, but right now, I'm hooked on series, especially urban fantasy series.

  • What is your all-time favorite read?

That's a tough one because I have favorites in every genre. The first one that comes to mind is

Lamb by Christopher Moore. It's a completely fictional and hilarious take on Jesus's life and

death as told by his best friend, Biff. The book makes me laugh and cry in equal measure every

time that I read it.

  • Do you re-read books?

All the time. Books are like friends. Some you don't mind seeing just once every few years, and

those you need to visit with all the time. I'm the same way with audiobooks, though those are

more for the craft aspect. I love listening to my favorite writers to examine their choice of

words, rhythm, and overall storytelling.
